Year in Review 2023 – My Learnings & More

There’s no better way to start the year than to self-reflect. And self-reflection is not just about dwelling on mistakes; it’s about celebrating victories, acknowledging growth, and paving the path for what lies ahead. I’ve been doing this for six years straight and here’s my Year in Review 2023.

So, buckle up for a journey of introspection and inspiration.

My First International Trip

Last year, I embarked on my first international trip (if we don’t consider Nepal 😛) and it was a life-changing experience. Before this, I never quite understood the hype around traveling abroad, but now I get it.

If you find yourself on the fence about exploring new countries, my advice would be to take the leap and travel abroad. While India has its own breathtaking destinations, certain experiences can only be had by setting foot in a new country. Things like immersing yourself in a new culture, trying local cuisines, and being disconnected from your daily routine due to time zone differences and communication barriers – all of which allows you to truly unwind and rejuvenate.

Last year, I visited Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Dubai, and Abu Dhabi. While I’m no travel expert, you can’t go wrong with any of these countries. Each city and country has its own unique charm that will leave you awestruck. For instance, Singapore is a haven for foodies, offering a delightful fusion of different cultures. Similarly, the theme parks in Abu Dhabi and the luxurious hotels in Dubai are worth experiencing.

While in Singapore, I even had the chance to visit the Ahrefs office, which was a different experience altogether.

A Year of Doubling Down

Last year was all about doubling down at work. You don’t need to find a new opportunity to celebrate or grow; you can do it by improving yourself and getting better at what you’re already good at.

At MoEngage, I launched new assets, generated pipeline, and took on new challenges. While I succeeded in some, I failed miserably at others. And that’s okay – you need to focus on the experience and learnings.

One key takeaway for anyone looking to grow in their career is to keep learning, experimenting, and creating processes that help you succeed and make fewer mistakes. Stop searching for that secret formula; it boils down to the basics.

Focus on the process, and everything will go your way.

Buying My First Car

Learning to drive has been one of my yearly goals since 2020, I’d guess. But finally, this year, I ticked it off and also bought a new car. While a used car might have been the ideal choice (my father would second that), I went for a new one for multiple reasons.

Buying your first car is always special and a completely new experience altogether. One learning while driving in the last few months has been that it’s such a significant responsibility. While I was terrified at first, with time, you get better. Awareness and patience are the keys.

Also, not everything needs to be viewed through a financial lens. Do whatever floats your boat. It’s easy to get carried away with the current options in the market, but buy a car that will fit your needs today, not 10 years from now.

Health is Wealth

I’d hoped more people spoke about it, but it’s easy to ignore health, especially when you’re young. However, last year, I realized that you need to consciously focus on your well-being. It’s okay to eat out once in a while or go out with friends. But ensure you’re not taking your health for granted. Do regular health check-ups, pick up a sport, or get a gym/fitness subscription and make it a routine.

It’s better to start sooner rather than later.

New Year, New Goals

As every year, there are certain goals I want to check off my list. I’ll share a few here so you can hold me accountable.

  • Resuming YouTube – I plan to resume creating videos. So, you can subscribe to my channel to not miss out on the new videos. I plan to create more content around Generative AI. I feel it’s talked about a lot, but I still see not many folks using it in their workflow.
  • Writing More – You can expect more content to come your way this year. Keep an eye on this blog.
  • Travel more – I hope to continue my travel streak and explore new countries this year as well. Fingers crossed.
  • Network more – I wish to speak to more industry leaders and understand their viewpoints.

I’m ending it with a photo of my workspace –

Wrapping It Up

While 2023 may not have been as momentous as I’d hoped, it was a year of growth, exploration, and embracing life’s simple pleasures. I discovered the joys of travel, doubled down on my career, took on new responsibilities, and prioritized my well-being. These experiences have shaped me and prepared me for the journey ahead.

All the best for 2024 💙
